Notifications are not arriving

You are not getting notifications for new messages or calls? Go through the points in order. Usually it is a setting on the phone or in Rasum.

First check the main switch in Rasum.

  1. In the chat list, tap your profile picture at the top left.
  2. Tap “Notifications” bell.
  3. Turn on “Enable notifications on this device”.

If the note “System notifications turned off” appears there, your phone is blocking the notifications. In the note, tap “system settings” and allow notifications for Rasum.

Does the phone allow notifications for Rasum?

Section titled “Does the phone allow notifications for Rasum?”

Rasum can only notify you if your phone allows it.

iPhone: Open the iPhone Settings app, tap Rasum and then Notifications. Turn on notifications. Android: Open the Android Settings, then Apps → Rasum → Notifications. Turn on notifications.

The menu names can differ slightly depending on the phone.

A muted chat sends no notifications. You recognise it in the chat list by the crossed-out bell crossed-out bell.

This is how you unmute it:

  1. Open the chat and tap the name at the top.
  2. Tap “Notifications”.
  3. Choose “All messages”.

Android: It is faster with the “Unmute” button at the top of the chat info.

More about this under Notification settings.

With “Mentions and replies only” you only get a notification when someone addresses you with @. In encrypted chats, you may then get no notification at all. The app shows the note “Your account provider does not support this option in encrypted chats, …” (“Account provider” means the Rasum server.)

Fix: under “Settings” → “Notifications”, set “Group chats” and “Direct chats” to “All messages”.

On the iPhone, a Focus like “Do Not Disturb” or “Sleep” can hold back all notifications. Check in Control Center whether a Focus is on. Turn it off or allow Rasum in the Focus.

For calls, Rasum has the switch “Audio and video calls” under “Notifications” → “Additional settings”. Leave it on so that calls ring.

Android can slow down apps in the background to save battery. Then notifications arrive late or not at all.

For this, Rasum shows the note “Notifications not arriving?” in the chat list. Tap “Disable optimisation” and confirm Android’s question.

If you do not see the note, you can also go to Android Settings → Apps → Rasum → Battery. Choose “Unrestricted” or a similar setting there. The names depend on the phone manufacturer.

Android: check notifications with the test

Section titled “Android: check notifications with the test”

Rasum on Android has a built-in test for notifications.

  1. In the chat list, tap your profile picture at the top left.
  2. Tap “Notifications”.
  3. At the bottom, tap “Troubleshoot notifications”.
  4. Tap “Run tests”.
  5. If a test shows the “Attempt to fix” button, tap it.

One test shows a sample notification. Tap it so that the test continues. At the end it says, for example, “All tests passed successfully.”

Android: calls do not appear as a full screen

Section titled “Android: calls do not appear as a full screen”

If a call only appears small or not at all when the phone is locked, a permission is missing. Rasum then shows the note “Enhance your call experience”. Follow the note and allow full-screen notifications.

Android: Rasum without Google Play or without Google services

Section titled “Android: Rasum without Google Play or without Google services”

On Android, Rasum gets its notifications through the phone’s Google services. If you did not install Rasum from Google Play or your phone has no Google services, you get no push notifications. Incoming calls then do not ring either. You only see new messages when you open Rasum.

Install Rasum from Google Play on a phone with Google services if you need notifications.

If everything is turned on and still nothing arrives:

  1. Check whether Rasum is connected at all. If “Offline” or “Server unreachable” is shown at the top, read Connection problems.
  2. Restart the phone.
  3. Update Rasum to the newest version. See Update the app.
  4. Write to us. See Get help.
