Voice messages

With a voice message you send a short audio recording instead of text. You record it with the microphone on the right of the message field.

Record and send a voice message

In Rasum you tap the microphone once. You do not have to hold it.

1. Open the chat. The message field must be empty.
2. Tap the microphone on the right of the message field. The recording starts.
3. Speak your message.
4. Tap the stop icon . The recording ends.
5. You now see a preview. With play you listen to it.
6. Tap send.

Android: A recording can be at most 30 minutes long. After that, the recording stops by itself.

Discard a recording

If you do not like the recording, delete it before sending.

• In the preview, tap the bin . The recording is not sent.
• Android: Already during the recording, the icon on the left of the message field cancels the recording.

Play a voice message

Voice messages you receive appear in the chat with a waveform.

• Tap play to listen to it.
• Tap pause to stop.
• With the “Playback speed” button you listen to the message faster.
• iPhone: You skip forward and back on the waveform.

Rasum is not allowed to use the microphone

For voice messages, Rasum needs access to the microphone. The first time, your phone asks for it. Allow access.

If you have denied access, Rasum shows a note:

iPhone: “Rasum needs permission to access your microphone.” with “Grant access so you can record and send messages with audio.” Tap “Settings” and turn on the microphone for Rasum there.

Android: “Rasum does not have permission to access your microphone. Enable access to record a voice message.” Allow the microphone in the Android settings for the Rasum app.

The voice message is not sent

If “Failed to upload your voice message.” appears, the upload did not work.

1. Check your internet connection.
2. Try Wi-Fi if the mobile network is bad.
3. Record the message again and send it again.

A voice message cannot be played

If a voice message cannot be played, an older app version can be the cause.

1. Update Rasum to the newest version. More about this under Update the app.
2. Then open the chat again.
