When you long-press a message, a menu opens. Which entries it shows depends on the message: whether it is yours, whether it is text, an image or a poll, and which permissions you have in the chat.

## What is in a message's menu?

At the top of the menu are emojis for a quick reaction. Below them are the actions:

| Entry | What it does | When it appears |
|---|---|---|
| [Icon: curved arrow pointing left] **"Reply"** | Reply to this message | if you are allowed to write in the chat |
| [Icon: curved arrow pointing right] **"Forward"** | Send the message to another chat | for sent messages |
| [Icon: pencil] **"Edit"** | Change the text of the message | for your own text messages |
| [Icon: pencil] **"Add caption"** / **"Edit caption"** | Add or change text for an image or video | for your own images and videos |
| [Icon: pencil] **"Edit poll"** | Change your own poll | for your own polls |
| [Icon: chain link] **"Copy link to message"** | Copy a link to exactly this message | for sent messages |
| [Icon: pin] **"Pin"** / [Icon: crossed-out pin] **"Unpin"** | Attach the message to the top of the chat or remove it again | only with permission in the chat |
| [Icon: two overlapping sheets] **"Copy text"** | Copy the text to the clipboard | for messages with text |
| [Icon: translate symbol] **"Translate"** | Translate the text | **iPhone only**, for text messages |
| [Icon: speech bubble with exclamation mark] **"Report content"** | Report the message to the operator | only for other people's messages |
| [Icon: trash can] **iPhone:** **"Remove message"** · **Android:** **"Remove"** | Delete the message for everyone | for your own messages, or with moderation rights |
| [Icon: list with check mark] **"End poll"** | Close your own running poll | for your own polls |

For images and videos with a caption, there are also **"Copy caption"** and **"Remove caption"**.

Messages that were not sent or cannot be decrypted show only a few entries.

## React to a message

1. Long-press the message.
2. Tap an emoji at the top.

For more choice, tap **iPhone:** **"Add a reaction"** · **Android:** **"React with other emojis"**.

The reaction appears below the message as a small capsule with a number. If you tap a capsule, you add the same reaction or remove your own again. If there are many reactions, you can expand and collapse them with **"Show more"** and **"Show less"**.

**iPhone:** If you long-press a reaction, **"Show reactions summary"** shows who reacted how.

## Edit a message

You can change your own text messages after sending them.

1. Long-press your message.
2. Tap **"Edit"**.
3. Above the input field it says **"Editing"**. Change the text.
4. Send the message again. **Android:** The send button shows a check mark [Icon: check mark].

Afterwards, **"(edited)"** appears before the time. Everyone in the chat can see that the message was changed.

You cannot edit voice messages.

## Delete a message

A deleted message disappears **for everyone** in the chat. In its place you then see [Icon: trash can] **"Message removed"**. Rasum has no option to delete a message only for yourself.

**iPhone:**

1. Long-press your message.
2. Tap **"Remove message"**.
3. **"Confirm removal"** appears with the question **"Are you sure you wish to remove this message?"**.
4. Optionally, you can enter a reason under **"Reason (optional)"**.
5. Tap **"Remove"**.

**Android:**

1. Long-press your message.
2. Tap **"Remove"**.

> **Caution:**
On Android, **"Remove"** deletes the message immediately and without asking, for everyone in the chat. This cannot be undone.

Rasum discards a message that has not been sent yet without asking, on both platforms.

**iPhone:** If you delete a voice message, Rasum also deletes its recognised text.

## Can I delete a message only for myself?

No. Rasum has no option to delete only for yourself. **"Remove message"** (iPhone) and **"Remove"** (Android) always delete the message for everyone in the chat.

## Forward a message

1. Long-press the message.
2. Tap **"Forward"**.
3. Choose the chat the message should go to.

## Copy text

1. Long-press the message.
2. Tap **"Copy text"**.

The app briefly confirms this. **iPhone:** **"Message copied"** · **Android:** **"Copied to clipboard"**.

With **"Copy link to message"** you copy a link that points to exactly this message instead.

## Pin a message (attach it to the top)

Pinned messages are clearly visible at the top of the chat. This way, everyone can quickly find important information again. You can only pin if you have permission to do so in the chat.

1. Long-press the message.
2. Tap **"Pin"**.

A banner with the pinned message then appears at the top of the chat. If there are several, it shows for example "1 of 3". With **"View All"** you see all pinned messages. You also find the list in the chat info under **"Pinned messages"**.

**Android:** A pinned message also has a small pin [Icon: pin] next to the bubble.

To unpin, long-press the message and tap **"Unpin"**.

## Report a message

With **"Report content"** you report a message from another person, for example for harassment or spam.

1. Long-press the message.
2. Tap **"Report content"**.
3. Describe the reason for the report.
4. If you want, turn on **"Block user"**. You will then no longer see messages from this person.
5. Send the report.

The app points out: **"This message will be reported to your account provider. They will not be able to read any encrypted messages."** The account provider here is Rasum.

You report an entire chat through the chat info. See [Manage a chat](https://doc.rasum.chat/en/chats/chat-verwalten/).
